Is there an easy way to disable all controls/a screen?

Looking for a way to make all or part of a screen appear disabled/faded, as is often done when modals or focused edits are used.

You can overlay a semi-transparent Panel over the content that you want to be shown as disabled. Make sure Panel has no border, has white background and set transparency to 75%. Let me know if this works for you.
